Plagiarism Policy

The Fari Journal of Social Sciences and Law is committed to upholding the highest ethical standards in all aspects of its publishing process. The integrity of academic research is fundamental to the journal’s mission, and we take plagiarism very seriously. This Plagiarism Policy outlines the procedures and expectations regarding plagiarism in manuscripts submitted for publication.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

  • Plagiarism is the act of using someone else’s work, ideas, or intellectual property without proper attribution or permission. This includes:
    • Copying or closely paraphrasing text from another source without appropriate citation.
    • Reusing data, images, or tables from other works without acknowledgment.
    • Presenting someone else’s findings or interpretations as one’s own.
    • Self-plagiarism, where an author reuses substantial portions of their previously published work without proper citation.
  • Plagiarism also includes recycling text or data from previous publications of the same author(s) without appropriately referencing it.

2. Plagiarism Detection

  • All submitted manuscripts are checked for plagiarism using reputable plagiarism detection tools, such as Turnitin and iThenticate.
  • Manuscripts with significant overlap (typically exceeding 20%) with previously published works, without proper citation, will not be accepted.
  • The editorial team reserves the right to reject manuscripts that show evidence of plagiarism or unethical use of others’ work at any stage of the review or publication process.

3. Responsibility of Authors

  • Authors are responsible for ensuring the originality of their work and must guarantee that the research has not been previously published or under consideration elsewhere.
  • Authors must provide full and accurate citations for any material or ideas that are not their own, including direct quotes, paraphrased content, and data.
  • In the case of self-plagiarism (reusing one’s own previous work), authors must acknowledge their prior work and provide proper citations to avoid presenting it as new or original.

4. Consequences of Plagiarism

  • During Submission: If plagiarism is detected during the initial submission, the manuscript will be rejected immediately. Authors will be notified and asked to revise their submission if they wish to submit it again, after addressing the plagiarism issues.
  • After Acceptance: If plagiarism is discovered after a manuscript has been accepted but before it is published, the manuscript will be retracted and the author will be notified. A retraction notice will be issued, and the article will be removed from the journal's archives, clearly stating the reason for retraction.
  • Post-Publication: If plagiarism is identified after publication, a retraction notice will be published, explaining the reasons for the withdrawal of the article. The journal will also take steps to ensure that the retracted article is flagged and remains publicly available for record-keeping and academic integrity purposes.

5. Handling of Plagiarism Allegations

  • If a plagiarism allegation is raised after the manuscript has been submitted, the editorial team will conduct a thorough investigation. The author(s) will be asked to explain and address the allegations.
  • In cases where plagiarism is confirmed, the article will be rejected or retracted, and the author(s) may be prohibited from submitting future manuscripts to the Fari Journal of Social Sciences and Law.
  • The editorial board may also report the incident to the author’s academic institution or other relevant organizations for further investigation and action.

6. Role of Reviewers and Editors

  • Reviewers: Reviewers are responsible for checking manuscripts for signs of plagiarism and should notify the editorial team if they identify any issues. Reviewers should also ensure that all sources are properly cited.
  • Editors: Editors are responsible for ensuring that all submitted manuscripts comply with the journal’s plagiarism policy. They are required to verify that the content is original and free from any form of academic misconduct.

7. Prevention of Plagiarism

  • The Fari Journal of Social Sciences and Law encourages authors to use plagiarism detection tools before submitting their manuscripts to ensure their work complies with ethical standards.
  • Authors are encouraged to familiarize themselves with proper citation and referencing practices and to seek guidance on avoiding plagiarism if needed. The journal may provide educational resources on academic integrity and citation guidelines.

8. Ethical Guidelines Compliance

  • The Fari Journal of Social Sciences and Law follows the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) guidelines for handling plagiarism and other ethical issues. These guidelines promote transparency, fairness, and ethical responsibility in the publication process.

9. Policy Review

  • This Plagiarism Policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it reflects the latest best practices in academic publishing and plagiarism detection.
  • Any updates or changes to the policy will be communicated to authors, editors, and reviewers through the journal’s website and other official channels.

By adhering to this Plagiarism Policy, the Fari Journal of Social Sciences and Law aims to maintain the highest standards of academic integrity and ensure that all published work is free from unethical practices. The policy helps protect the journal’s reputation and the trust placed in it by authors, researchers, and the academic community.
